From an estimated value of $51 billion in 2023, the energy storage market is projected to grow at a compound annual rate of 7% to reach a potential $86 billion valuation by 20311. The market is fueled by lithium-ion batteries, which have emerged as an efficient and versatile energy source for numerous applications.

President of Orbia Fluor & Energy Materials Gregg Smith commented, “The battery industry is contributing to the growth of the U.S. economy with applications ranging from energy storage and grid stabilization to heavy industry and national security. Orbia is committed to building a resilient, U.S.-led battery ecosystem, localizing supply chains and expanding domestic manufacturing. Our custom electrolyte facility will play a key role in the battery industry by developing technology to improve battery performance, safety and efficiency.”

Orbia expanded its custom electrolyte business to a 11,000 square-foot production facility following a successful beta launch in 2023. Orbia had previously acquired Silatronix, a Wisconsin-based startup with unique electrolyte technology and further developed its business into the custom electrolyte offering. Orbia has continued investing in the state with a nearby Madison Technology Center focused on custom electrolyte R&D and the custom electrolyte production facility combined supporting more than 25 jobs. In addition, Orbia announced it will join the RESHAPE consortium to support energy materials research at the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
